The brief

A resident goes down at 2 am. The call button is on the wall. Nobody finds out until the round.

The brief: know the minute it happened, without a camera.

Planning

A camera in a bedroom is something families are right to refuse.

So the unit reports the event, never a picture. Nothing to leak, nothing to watch, nothing to object to on a tour. And its own name: Florence.

Design

It started as a speaker. A dozen sketches, ten crossed out. A bezel no prouder than a downlight, a domed face, the thinnest ring of light.

The brand pass. Florence: geometric like Apple and Lautner, warm like Humane and Daylight. The mark is the unit from below, one ring, one opening, where the light is.

Supply

Seven parts. Bezel, mesh, diffuser ring, board, spreader, can, two clips. The model runs on the board. Python and Postgres behind it.

Implementation

A 90 mm cutout and two clips. The same install as a downlight. Then the only thing that crosses the ceiling is a sentence.

The one rule. Events cross the ceiling, pictures do notSystem diagram

Maintenance

Firmware over the air. Every event logged. When a unit stops reporting, it tells us first.
